Kettering: Photos: Charles East's Factory

This photograph shows the near complete demolition of the properties that stood on the triangle of land, which formed the junction between Lower Street, Upper Street and Northall Street in Kettering.  The block included houses, shops and garages.

The demolition, c.1959, revealed a new view of one of Kettering’s oldest shoe factories – that of Charles East.

To the right of the photograph you can see the Friends or Quaker Meeting House, which still stands today.

Windsor Gardens and the surrounding area now occupies the former site of Charles East’s boot and shoe factory.
