STITCH was a 3 mile long path of light that travelled across  the beautiful Nene valley, pinpointing two prestigious boot and shoe-making factories (Barker shoes and Griggs, the home of Dr Martens) to jaw-dropping effect.  For three nights this monumental art installation bound together the historic villages of Earls Barton and Wollaston via eight 7 watt laser beams.

‘I love the process of shoemaking and how it links different elements – engineering, design, human craftsmanship and raw materials (leather).  The communities in Earls Barton and Wollaston share this creative heritage, and it is this connection that is at the heart of the artwork as we create a vast stitch that will bind together the factories and villages across the original source of the boot and shoe industry, the Northamptonshire landscape.’

STITCH was the latest Jo Fairfax / FLOW collaboration in the county which saw the delivery of the Northampton LIGHTHOUSE laser light art installation on the National Lift Tower marking 2012 hours to go before the opening of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
